That may be true but there are also stocks out there that will at least help you claw back some losses by way of dividends at least.

I've learned the hard way (and am still learning) that hanging on losers can result in slow degradation of that pitiful remaining capital (thus exacerbating the bad fortunates). The alternative would have been for example solid dividends that would at least reduce the loss you otherwise suffered (your fortunates going in the right direction).

I've also learned trying to pick a quick winner to make outsized gains to compensate for the large loss can quickly add to your pain if it again goes badly.
