Who is 'they'? Mysterious manipulators didn't bring the price down. The market brought the price down from 40c after MK1. At 40c buyers hoped the tools would not get stuck and a gas/fluid sample would be brought to the surface. The tool got stuck and was damaged getting it out and the well was eventually abandoned. It happens. And the price adjusted down because it would take another well to retrieve a sample and here we are.
