My reason for switching to 6" was to reduce the length of 8.5" hole and therefore reduce the time it remains left open. Formation damage is still a risk, the volume of mud filtrate lost to the formation is unknown, but if there is near wellbore damage it will have an adverse effect on the required pump-out duration - not good if we want to minimise the risk of differential sticking.
