They use down hole pumps in some of the Mexican oil wells. Because the oil is quite viscous, these pumps only last about 2 or 3 months and they cost US$250k each. Apparently, they can flow HCD into the oil just ahead of the pump, reduce the viscosity and thereby extend the life of the pumps and save heaps. Another benefit of using HCD.
