Ah…Covalent Bonding…. reminded me of the Materials Science subjects I did in my Engineering course. Anyone who likes to know more about metal fatigue fracture in a fictional context can read Nevil Shute’s novel called No Highway. In fact, the story line in No Highway is quite similar to the current situation between the Boeing and the certification engineer (the bureaucrats in the novel) vs our company (the novel hero, Theodore Honey who used hundreds of vibrators trying to induce metal fatigue fracture by 1440 hours on a tailplane and his boss Dennis Scott). Nevil Shute, born 1899 in London, was educated in Engineering Science and worked as an Aeronautical Engineer. He wrote No Highway in 1948 when he lived in Frankston, Victoria. The novel was my Form 5 English novel. His more famous novels are “Pied Piper” and “A Town like Alice.” Enjoy your reading while we wait for the impasse to resolve.
