Traditional energy companies spend a huge portion of profits on further exploration. Green activists and COP have made this increasingly hard and unprofitable to do so leading to a current shortage in gas and oil supply. This transitional phase will last for another few years whilst current producers of oil and gas have returned their highest ever profits amidst an oil and gas supply crunch.
