Used to know a professor at the ANU. Brilliant metallurgist. He had a cobalt deposit at Mittagong he wanted to float. I did some homework and found that cobalt price is extremely volatile and patchy. The bulk of the time the price is poor, and than it goes up hard for a while. It would never be a safe bet to open any mine just to produce cobalt. It is only viable as a by product of a more stable metallic deposit. Its pot luck what the price will be. From memory its a war metal. Used for hardening steel and aircraft engines?
