You say 'I can't believe', but it's just how human nature works. We all really want this to work (myself first) and prefer to hear arguments that are aligned with that (compare upvotes of posts). It's good to hear arguments to the contrary.

Some people now say they have enough cash for another 2-3 years. First of all I wonder whether the current cost rate can be extrapolated linearly (but as@AM27 showed even at the current rate this is less than 2 years). Second why would it take so long if this last step is relatively straightforward (not my words)? 'Relatively', so this was never gonna work straight away (which is what they said; at least one more iteration expected).
