Let 4DS do the tech spend, keep the finger right on the pulse and therefore Western Digital is effectively in development mode, just off balance sheet.
Further to the other points made it seems rare that these tech companies move before there's just about absolute proof that it all works. Taking 5, 10 or 15% of a company early, while not unheard of doesn't seem the path these companies take. All or nothing even if it's a huge premium.
