I had mentioned some time ago in a post not to focus on Guido's options as Directors as each have varying circumstances to take up options at the time and this has come as no surprise to me. The reasoning provided for this is very valid and I have experienced this on several occassions in the past.
My view is the following:

1. WD is convinced that the technology is part of their future.
2. In the current global environment, WD cannot go to their shareholders for such a huge investment to buy 4DS unless they have eliminated as many of the technical and performance risks associated with the last 5-10% of the technology. That's why they are now driving several of the parameters to align them with their own technical path and strategy. My reading of the results are that there are no major technical issues other that trying the tune a great outcome into an exceptional outcome.
3. It's better for WD to get 4DS to do that than take it inhouse and buy 4DS early for both parties.
4. I have no doubt that verbal conversations have occurred already with WD to suggest that "4DS - I can only offer $X amount now based on the current state but if I know that most of the 5-10% risk is driven out by you, then I can offer you $Y >> $X.
5. The other conversation that has been had is "Guido, don't convert your options and then sell 10's of millions of shares to pay for it - this will have an adverse effect for everyone. We'll come to an agreement to pay you a bonus (a very large bonus) based on the successful completion of shares and the subsequent sale."
6. Lastly, we're in hitech leading edge development. You do not reveal your metrics to a motley bunch of shareholders (myself included) just to give them some strange satisfcation of trying to compare this with other technologies to value 4DS when I know there are so few people in the world who could draw the right conclusions. Lastly be prepared for the event where this is sold to WD and still doesn't reveal the metrics in detailed terms cause WD would not want to do so anyway until it was ready to go to market.So in conclusion, great outcome, further derisk for WD, further increase in value of sale, await the right time to maximize share price in the middle of the worse economic downturn to hit the world.

Your views are always settling and hi-end rationale.
It certainly looks like WD is our likely outcome.
So, how do you see this getting done with the view of what is best for the shareholders. Considering metrics may never get released.
Does it leave a door open for contestation, if there isn't an opportunity to have another bidder enter the fray.
If it happens under the radar, script may come into its own, if it's an option.
Any thoughts?
