The 0.2% total of 996m was at April 23, not sure what happened April 24,27 and 28 but April 29 was a further 684k gross shorts.
We'll know by Tuesday next week (i think) what the total shorts to yesterday was ... I assume it climbs from 0.2%.
If you look at the 3 year shorts chart ... the maximum recorded was 1.4m shorts (0.36%) February 9, 2023 when the SP was roughly 50c.
Look what happened next.
So I wouldn't "poo poo" the data too quickly ... it's actually real data, useful data and can be used to guide logical investment not just a retail emotional response to good news here.
I'm waiting to consider investing so am in no rush as all I see here is a standard looking topping chart so far.
