I am perhaps reading too much into it, but they have said that to obtain characteristics in one direction takes away performance from another characteristic, so I wouldn't be surprised the read speed would drop somewhat to have some amount of hours of retention, likely needing to action a longer shot of energy to do so, thereby taking longer to write.
