Depends how they do it.
If it is purely based on number of shares held at record date, it's not necessarily fair.
Someone who bought 10,000 shares at $2 each 3 years ago would receive less than somebody who bought 20,000 shares at 60c 3 weeks ago...
Despite investing more $$ and holding for much longer.
