Great announcement today.
The words "Ex-Vivo" was what I took note of, i.e. work conducted in a test tube. This is where you can edit the cell before injecting it (when it's time) back into the patients body. This is similar to the ongoing work on tumour infiltrating lymphocytes, or TILs, where scientists extract patients immune cells from tumour biopsies and then grow them in the lab in the billions and then re-inject them back into the patients body. Or like CAR-T therapy. Couple that with the company about to conduct work on the second generation CPPs that can deliver 10x as much cargo into the target cell substantially more efficiently as the ‘first generation’ CPPs in the Cas9 program and this is starting to look very exciting.
