I do not really have an opinion one way or the other - I was just providing information on what is happening in the "retail brokerage world".
I will make the point though that the US stocks are not actually owned by the Australian account holder. They are similar in this regard to being a beneficial holder of Australian shares, such as holding via Interactive Brokers.
On the Stake community pushback, I am unaware of that but have not seen a change in that position yet from Stake.
