re: Ann: Supermarket Fresh Produce Contracts ... Surandy,
my 2 main observations are:-
1) agri business making money out of Coles and Woollies is a most unlikely long term prospect. Anyone with experience of dealing with those 2 operations knows what a poisoned challice they are. Method of operation is to suck suppliers in and then spend the duration of the relationship applying an endless, stage by stage stream of ways of screwing them to the point of leaving them in a state of profitless prosperity.
They have been described to me in the past as customers that will send you broke eventually. I would not argue with that and I admire mgmnt that knows when to say no.
Of course I don't know what happened to bring things to a conclusion. It could be Olam thinking its a good idea to work for less, or it could be A$ v import related causes.
Either way I like the idea of maintaning profitability.
2) What are the chances of the volume involved being absorbed elsewhere?. Again I can only speculate but the prospects for that seem better than at an time in the past 5 years.
So all in all this announcement does not raise alarm bells for me.
cheers
DYOR of course.
