The more contracts they can lock down into an agreed period ... in this case 2 years with automatic renewal and with the Major Bedding supplier 2 years with potential automatic renewal ... the better. It provides more certainly around ongoing revenue streams and avoids the uncertainly when purchase orders are placed as a one off making it far easier for purchasers to purchase elsewhere and chase pricing - which is likely what occurred last year.
