Today I learned something regarding sulfur that most of you boffins probably already know, but I'm slow on the uptake. Bear with me.

So today I was listening to an energy podcast, they were talking about grades of oil (sweet, sour, heavy, light), and discussing IMO 2020 (http://www.imo.org/en/MediaCentre/HotTopics/Pages/Sulphur-2020.aspx) involving the reduction of sulfur in shipping oil. "Sour" oil is oil high in sulfur. Got me wondering, where does UAE sit in the world regarding its sulfur content in its oil. Turns out, on the higher side



The world wants low sulfur oil based products, so UAE has to remove the sulfur.

ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) is the largest oil producer/refiner in the country and recently announced plans to increase sulfur production (https://www.ogj.com/articles/2018/10/adnoc-to-build-sulfur-pipeline-expand-shah-gas-processing.html)

"ADNOC Sour Gas produces about 3.5m tonnes per year of Sulfur, a by-product of sour gas processing, and accounts for five per cent of total global production, making the UAE the world’s largest Sulfur exporter. The Shah plant features four of the largest Sulfur recovery units in the world."

Needless to say, UAE is not short of Sulfur.
