He mentioned this disconnect in every TNG interview that he did. Means nothing. The only thing that it does mean is that he's running the same playbook he was there and his record there speaks for itself.
SRN (Vanadium) is a carbon copy of the TNG he used to run. "Large" deposit, protrietary benefection process resulting in low cost production.
He couldn't work it out there, chances are it will be same here.
