To spell it out, highly unlikely the BOP pressure rating is the issue. Its highly likely that the BOP has failed its function and/or pressure test. I have been directly involved in operations where the BOP has failed prior to drilling or completion operations. It normally takes a few days to get parts and complete the requisite tests. In this case there seems to be larger problems at play which is quite unusual and highly intriguing.

My current understanding is the maximum working pressure rating of BOP's reaches 25,000 psi. These units are generally run in ultra deep HP/HT environments such as the Gulf of Mexico et al. We are not operating in a HP/HT environment in Senegal therefore proposing that its a reservoir driven issue is really quite preposterous (happy to be proven wrong as I am in the red).
