Yes it does Pints, and it doesn't necessarily mean something negative. For example, a company goes into a trading halt pending an important announcement. Perhaps a potential large investor or joint venture partner then suddenly realises that they are not the front-runner and need to act with haste. They up the ante.
Now, if I were a company director I wouldn't be so concerned about some investors anticipating an announcement on a certain date, I would be more concerned with trying to secure a superior deal than had been hitherto proposed.
This is only a theory.
