I have followed Allan Gray for a while now (since they were Orbis), and admire their investment style. I would not presume to second guess why they are here, but their track record is sound. They must have seen some value in a future transaction - whatever that may be. This usually seems to be the case. It is about finding some value; or future value, contrary to the market. This may not be short term, as they seem to be pretty patient. I am not saying however, that they are perfect. While I am sure that they have done their due diligence, I also believe that they would be concerned by the current situation, and lack of concrete information.
