As I understand you can only have a TH for a certain amount of time - after that runs out you need to go to suspension (ie a longer pause). It sounds like the geologists got some great news - which could have leaked out - thus the TH (pretty standard) - unfortunatly small geological dept's can not throw a lot of info together at a drop of a hat - so I suspect that they are scrambling now. (poor buggers - ex WMC Geologist - they are under the pump).
