I dont believe MR would appreciate people discussing his private life here. But anyway he wouldn't mind this detail...I remember when Mark Creasy first came to promenence in the media they showed him leaning up against his battered old jeep (or landcruiser), and you look at the picture and thing, poor bastard, he should be able to afford a new car, the mans a f**n mining engineer for crists sake.

MR was probably a bit the same, he had a very old toyota landcruiser, same vehicle for the bush or parking at the offices in Nedlands. Haven't seen that car park in years, so things may have changed, but the answer is the same for most people... hard work and thriftyness.
