They can't do that. IF the ASX had queried them about when they knew what (which they do to companies are various times), then it would be really embarrassing, unprofessional and leaving themselves open to ASX action if they had to admit that they had been notified that the gazette was being printed but they didn't call a trading halt. As soon as any company knows something that can't be announced, they need to have a halt if the information is potentially market sensitive. The problem isn't the process here. The problem is that the entity which notified IVZ that the gazette would be published didn't have their information right. Unfortunately that reflects badly on IVZ through no fault of their own.
