The prices you see today are 90 day futures.... in other words Nickel is out of flavour 3 months from now as the EV market engine is delayed which has nothing to do with inventory at the LME.
It is future demand as are most contracts.... you can pay a today cash price but that rarely happens as business plans their future ahead of time not on a daily basis.
