HPA is a massive growth story and extremely lucrative. It has traditional uses in Sapphire Glass and LED's etc.
The big growth area if the EV Battery where it is used as a coating for the separator between the anode and cathode as well as in developing anode and cathode new technology, battery cell lining etc.
It is not easy to produce.
Traditionally it is largely produced in China via bauxite and costs about $17,000 per tonne to produce. This method of production can produce an inconsistent HPA product which will be an issue in new battery technology.
FYI Resources (FYI) and Altech Chemicals (ATC) are two HPA emergers via a Kaolin source. FYI is going to be producing HPA for around the $6,200 per tonne and ATC a bit more than this. This is significantly less than the traditional bauxite method.
There is a real opportunity to take the market in this space right now as a lot of global companies are also looking for green credentials and also to do business away from China.
SUV are still a while away from cracking the market clearly however if they can make it in this space it's quite exciting. Many have tried and failed to date.
