No doubt you make a good case, especially given the quality of the Freeway technology. Its a great app that offers users unlimited data on a specific range of apps.
However, this just isnt going to work in (thanh pho) cities in Vietnam. If you actually claim to have spent a lot of time in Vietnam then perhaps you would have noticed the habits they currently have. The majority of young people here dont even connect to wifi using passwords anymore. An app here has been developed that stores wifi passwords, allowing you to log in without the need to type in a password. So I can hardly see any inconvenience removed with the introduction of freeway.
On top of this, we have the financial aspect. Vietnamese dont want to pay for anything and if they do it has to be cheap. Having a recurring $5 or $10 monthly subscription is a luxury.
With regard to Vietnam being a big country with many farmland, most of the mobile users are in the cities, the young people. If you want to move between cities then people use bus/train ... which all come with free wifi. Despite this fact, you can still travel off road for an hour, find a tin shack and marvel at their ability to still have a high speed wifi connection ...
I pay $5 a month for my prepaid data/call - and Im in the luxury spenders range. I don't mean to pull your argument apart but the viability here for big revenues wont come for at least 5 - 10 years. I love syntonic, cash will come from somewhere else though.
