What's the problem with somebody looking for uranium? After an airborne survey, years ago, picked up a "radiometric anomaly" in the Balama area, (whatever that actually implies), at least three companies explored the lease for uranium, didn't find any, and gave up. Syrah realised that there was something else there, and has come up with the world's largest graphite deposit.

It's a story which has been repeated countless times in minerals exploration. How many of the early gold explorers in Australia abandoned leases which have subsequently proved to contain nickel, or cobalt, or lithium, or whatever?
