Given that it's a dev kit and raspberry pis are usually used for prototyping and not in a production environment I don't think this a concern. To be honest I'm a bit surprised they are selling them this way. Both the RPi and the shuttle PC have the same PCIe akida card in them(?)... which you can just plug in to any desktop?
I also thought the RPi version would be a module connected via the GPIO pins, instead they've slapped together an RPi compute module with an RPi IO board with a PCIe slot for the pi... Don't really see why they couldn't have just sold the Akida card by itself.
