Has anyone else pondered the accuracy of this very familiar resource sketch?
Before I lurch into my doubts, please refresh your memories as to how this Talga resource came about
- 2 billion years ago
- atmosphere was mostly CO2 with very little O2
- only life was bacteria living in shallow seas and feeding off the CO2, taking the Carbon and excreting the Oxygen
- end of life cycle the Carbon deposits on the sea floor
- a billion or so years later the earths atmosphere was largely Oxygen and the sea floor was a deposit of Carbon
- the bacteria had done us a good turn, but had run out of food
Then came the "push, shove, twists and turns" of the earth's crust till today we get today's sketch of the Talga's resource.
Is this a realistic sketch?
Imagine the original layer of Carbon on the sea floor. Think of it as a carpet. It is long and it is wide, but it is not hugely thick
Back to the resource sketch. Perhaps this carpet has been folded round into a large circle and upended 90 degrees.
This could then look something like Talga's sketch.
Every time Talga does any drilling they come up with the comment "20 or metres or so thick, but open along the other 2 axes (around the circumference and also depth). These would come from the two dimensions of the original carpet while the 20m would be the carpet's thickness.
So was the original the original carpet a long skinny (200m wide) runner or does Talga need to drill deeper.
A few times, Talga has floated the option of going underground, rather than open pit. This indicates that they could possible follow LKAB's path and choose the richest part of the ore body and go deep.
Worth a thought? The labour force would get a 12 month job instead of 6 months and a lot of the Sami objections would be nullified. Also, the size of the ore body would increase by a factor 2, 4, 8 . . .
