Interesting that it is a binding research agreement what ever that means. It certainly means that lawyers are involved and that the document is substantial and with lots of fine print
Also of interest is that Polestar(and associate Volvo) are owned by Geely in China and that Polestar cars are designed in Gothenberg (Sweden) and manufactured in Chengdu (China)
This is going to stir up the European political class with questions as to "what is all this about?" and what, if anything does it mean for our need to protect our European car industry against the vastly cheaper Chinese imports.
I have noticed in recent presentations and speeches that Mark Thompson has been less than impressed with with the European bureaucracy.
He has more than once mentioned or at least intimated that there is solidarity in them protecting their car industry at all costs. As an after thought, some of this solidarity has been extended to battery manufacturers, but the penny has yet to drop that car batteries need materials.
Perhaps this is Mark's way of demand a bit of attention.
We will all be closely watching this space.
