Another ASX company is converting cheap petroleum feed stock into synthetic graphite/graphene, The process uses sonication/cavitation energy. (it can also coat silicon with graphitic material)
from 1 tonne of petroleum feeds stock, they are achieving 940kgs of carbon material and 60kg of hydrogen.
It will be interesting to see the results and cost of production.
