I have been following the early phases of WA1's field activities on Sentinel earth. Posted this on WA1 site.
Been another satellite pass since that but I couldn't make out any extra lines or drill site preparations. Drilling going ahead but not easy to pick.
ENR are taking the same approach, similar anyway, as done by WA1 last year by drilling holes to provide proof of concept that the gravity/magnetic anomalies are in fact interesting. Will take an IOCG or variant, or a carbonatite and then drill a grid pattern over the rest of the anomaly to try and locate sweet spots in what are fairly large areas.
WA1 are using 200x200m spacing if the interpretation is any ways accurate.
I would expect them to do something like DRE did while testing magnetic targets with local carbonatite exposures in the Gascoyne. First two fences to confirm proof of concept that the carbonatites were extensive then grid pattern at 160m spacing. Infill at 80m spacing.
PXRF does give an indication of many elements. Yes the goodies (Nb/REEs etc if any) but also a wide range of useful elements that help explorers determine lithogeochemistry of weathered and fresh rock. The latter may help rig geos to determine the rock types they are getting. Carbonatites are odd beasts that not many will have experience with. Having a geochemical signature to place the samples in a category could help early ID of complex units.
The interpretation of WA1 exploration on satellite imagery shows that ENR work will probably be visible shortly after (within 5 cloud free days) it is carried out.
How deep should they drill at this stage? Looks like the first pass for ENR will be heading to 3-400m on the incline at least judging by the traces shown in the announcement. Is this too deep? OK if good grades and thickness at depth as happened at Olympic Dam (for example). Probably OK for a first pass to determine what the mag and gravity mean and then adjust a follow up plan.
How to follow up initial success?
Will WA1 follow DRE's approach and drill a follow up grid of vertical holes a short distance (nominally 3 RC rods) into 'fresh rock". [ Or punch down deep into fresh rock??]. A shallower pattern begins to define the lithologies and possible sweeter spots for further work.
Each prospect will be different but the above gives some hint of how ENR might proceed if successful.
That 3 of the first 4 drill targets had good hits does suggest either a lot of luck, great targeting or that there may be a very fertile area with more targets to be found. Falcon Gravity will certainly help.
