Unfortunately still very buggy, Coco. I make a lot of overseas calls and posted a week or two ago that I was having problems. Things worked ok for a while but tonight couldn't make any calls overseas. I actually came on HC tonight to see if others were having similar issues.
Experiences i've had:

- As you say, cant just go to contacts in WP and click on a contact and make a call through WP often puts the call over cellular even though WP is online
- Phone doesn't seem to ring when there is a WP call. The only way you can see if someone has called is if you go into the recent calls menu and see them as missed calls.
- Calls often not connecting
- No one I know in the UK has been able to make WP to WP calls for the last few days, despite updating and also reinstalling the app.
It asks them for credit which was lost when the app was reinstalled or sends it via cellular.

This "Award Winning Tech" still has a long way to go i'm afraid.
Don't like to admit it but resorted to WhatsApp again and it was faultless.

Perhaps i'm just expecting too much too soon.
