I still don't understand why Telstra management think they need to 'plug the gap'. Why don't they admit they need to shrink the business and stop putting money into these crazy 'moonshot' technology ideas. Instead they could use their strong cash generation to improve their network, defend their market position and pay a healthy dividend. It is just frustrating to see companies having to plug earnings/EBITDA instead of doing what is in the long term interest of shareholders.
Telstra does have a decent market position and the business could be an ok business if managed appropriately - unfortunately it is not! Telcos are poor businesses but in my opinion infrastructure and scale does give TLS some competitive advantages.
