Actually, really really good posts - sorry had to repeat myself, some great free thinking on both sides - well done and thanks for the time taken to write.

From an idiots point of view:
Human nature and the fact that we are screwed by either nanny state democracies.(many say big brother state) or fractious religious state hell holes. Depending on where you live. Few countries have spare productivity to invest in anything beyond winning the next election and keeping the whole broken mess wobbling along.

That said - it is obvious that we will keep burning fossil fuels till we cant get at them anymore. However, it is only common sense that you would re-invest a part of that wealth into renewables.

If you had a million dollars, you would party with some of it, increase the quality of your life with some of it, but if you were smart, you would invest most of it into generating cash flow so that you could continue the party at a more subdued level. I see our fossil fuel reserves the same way.

This party is killing us, when are we going to re-allocate some of the wealth and invite more people to the party, swap out the cigars, drunken brawls and drugged out dancing for a little wine and some fun games. - you know a party you would let your teenage daughter go to. Wholesomeness without the religion.
