I have always thought the climate change argument to be the wrong approach in furthering the renewable sector. Even now that the carbon price is now law, there is still debate/discussion on how the funds will be utilised for the renewable sector!
IMO, renewable energy is relevant to
(1) countries who need to diversify their energy supply (i.e. energy security) so they are not so reliant on imported energy; and
(2) countries transitioning from non-renewable energy sources where supply may fall to the extent that prices become unsustainable.
Another factor IMO, is the reduction of pollution in major cities. Can you imagine a city like Bangkok filled with electric powered cars powered by a renewable source.
