My employer is a Tyro customer. I work for the IT team of my employer. Our COO was talking to the CEO of Tyro about software/ firmware updates. He basically said they can happen at any time during the day. There is no "down time" for Tyro to do simple things like system maintenance when all of their customers don't need the service ie 2am on a weekend.
Tyro cannot take its network offline like other companies for these critical IT System updates. So I think we should acknowledge this when we are criticizing them for poor systems management.
