In some ways our test is better than a PCR test.
If mutations occur in the area chosen for a primer-site, the PCR test just won't work. At all. The primers have to be re-designed.
Mutations can occur in the coding for the nucleocapsid protein but without altering the 3-D structure of the protein and so our test will be unaffected.
Most mutations should occur on the spike protein as it is this which allows the virus to gain access to human cells. Without that access, the virus is doomed.
So, using a test that does not involve the constantly-changing spike protein is a very sound strategy.
