I'd assume that if we want to retain the current LOD and other favorable features we would need to stick with the current Europium chemistry rather than starting again with Gold or something else. As I understand it the Europium needs to work with a fluorescence reader rather than being human-readable as a visible colour change on the strip (such as a traditional pregnancy test). That means some sort of basic reader in the cartridge with comms connectivity to a smartphone such as the Ellume implementation is required. Far from impossible but a serious development effort I would have thought. This sort of RAT would inevitably sell at a higher price point and is some evidence that the home RAT market is a race to the bottom. Do any Europium LFT platforms with embedded readers exist?

Home kits also require a phone support line be set up, so again, a not insignificant effort to set that up and staff it with suitably trained personnel.
