Thinking of emotion.......SQM are told you now need to give the state part of your company from 2030 onwards. They have become the biggest contributors to the nation this past year beating CODELCO.
So what do they do?..........they buy LPI which owns the land and can go full bottle for 20 odd years in stage 1. I can see that happening. Right next door, remembering Gekkos comments LPI has the ownership of those land parcels which will be required to be used by other mines. The strategic land which increases the power or ability to be involved in much of the future.

SQM gets that and says lets forget about the 2030 and extend it 50 more years, then I will allow the government use the land we just bought off LPI.

That would get a little hostile but no doubt the talking behind doors of all the players must have some heat in them.

A couple of different possibilities, but potentially many others. LPI/Misui for stage 1 with Mitsui offtake. LPI/Codelco for stage 2 with Mitsui offtake. Tianqi takes LPI over and JVs with SQM for stage 1, given Tianqi owns 24 percent of SQM. Tianqi JVs with Codelco for Stage 2. SQM resource at Maricunga shared 50/50 between stage 1 and stage 2 projects. Not financial advice, just a bunch of hypotheticals.
