My 40yrs of Poly Phase electrical experience leads me to believe that the ideas and infrastructure do not yet exist in order to syncronise all these "micro" systems to form a supply (unreliable) backbone.

Coal, Gas or Hydro (very very large Hydro) are needed to form the base phase angle relationship that all these "micro" systems need to join into.

Even the large Hydro needs to be replenished during the day hours, or when the wind is blowing and as such 20hours worth of energy need to be produced during the daylight hours to have any chance of going close to grid net zero.
