EG is a nice guy and obviously worked very hard to grow his baby. Sorry to see him go.
Unfortunately, I think he lost sight of who his customer was by charging them. And he didn't realise the maximum potential attention and LTV of his product (i.e. subscribers), which is orders of magnitude lower than META.
Maybe whoever takes over will have a better grasp of the unit economics.
