In an “almighty dollar” worshipping society where education and research is not seen as beneficial to society and the view is all research must have an immediate commercial benefit ..... innovation is stifled and stagnates. If you look at how much past research was conducted in more enlightened times that seemed at best an idle curiousity at the time .... and then went on to become a key part in very successful commercial ventures - it is staggering!
Research for research’s sake is useful, sure, things might go nowhere immediate, but these pools of knowledge lead to great things. Universities are not perfect, but they do (and should) provide fertile ground to nurture innovation and genius to flourish - and I appreciate the fertile ground provided is not exclusive, seeds grow everywhere, not just in prepared fields, but why claim the field is useless and reduce your options.
Remember the difference between highly intelligent and genius ...... a highly intelligent persons solution to a problem is one you can look at and think that given enough time, you could have done that as well. A genius’s solution is one where you look at it and think “I could never have come up with that!!!”. Checking that away is a waste of material.
Supporting universities and getting TTT’s tech introduced for academia and developing engineers to probe and explore is a great way to move kinetic fusion ahead in the mid to long term
