As the name suggests, LFP batteries contain iron and phosphates which are very common in the Earth's crust. While iron is abundant, North America needs the availability of battery grade purified phosphoric acid (PPA) production which is the key material in LFP batteries. LFP batteries contain neither nickel nor cobalt.
If I'm to understand this bar chart correctly, Fluorite demand in batteries will increase from 6-9% across the entire chemical supply chain (ex battery). PPA will increase considerably. Nickel, Lithium, Manganese dropping off, Cobalt, looks like it will increase?
Now Purified Phosphoric Acid production is something I have to look into.
