5ghz or 2.4ghz has to do more w/ frequency rather than speed. Think of it having a cable and tv antenna, the only difference are the channels its able to pick up not with speed but range. That channel can be your mobile phone, computer..(2.4ghz can even detect your microwave or tv remote sensor thats why there are devices where internet isnt the purpose) 5ghz on the other hand, dont do this becoz its of diff frequency but can also accumulate interferance easily rather than 2.4ghz.
