Reports of an old aged care home and a old boys home sold to Chinese and/or Korean investors.
Chinese investment in a large scale project near me.
Also a new motel proposed in the middle of town on an old shops site. Again similar type investors judging by the names on the D.A. applications.(They can be easily sourced on the Dubbo Regional Council website). One does not know if this is attracted by solar, wind or gold, though all three look positive. Not bad for a little town of around 4,000 in town, around 46% of those on some form of govt benefits?
The local real estate market is now overheated.
The long term/medium term prospects of gold/copper activity 10 minutes out of town would blow the lid off the joint.
There are still a few old pubs, buildings that have not moved as yet but the upgrade costs of some are prohibitive.
Interesting comments also re warm bunking at Peak Hill.
There are a few Tomingley mine workers from town here, it is an interesting scenario if Tomingley wound down ALK already have a skilled, trained workforce to transition to Wellington/Boda in time.
Economies of scale there possibly.
