I emailed the Mines Minister to try to put pressure on them to change their tune and this is the response I received.

Thank you for your email on15 April 2024regarding the Western Australian Labor Government’s policy on uranium mining in the State.

In June 2017, the Western Australian Government announced a ban on future uranium mining leases, noting that it would allow the development of projects that the former Government granted State Ministerial approval, conditional on them demonstrating substantial commencement within five years.

Of the four uranium projects that were granted approvals, only one has demonstrated substantial commencement within the conditioned 5-year timeframe. As a result, the only uranium proposal that can be legally implemented in Western Australia is the Mulga Rock Uranium Project.

I can confirm that the Cook Government does not support uranium mining and will not approve any new uranium proposals.

By the sounds of it the Cook government and their anti U agenda will never be changed, even if Pedo Pete Biden taps them on the shoulder.

We have 2 options - EPA path for substantial commencement OR hope there is a change of government in around a year.
