Its not necessarily more pay, it can infer that there is a large volume. If you think of a balloon half filled, the pressure is less than it would be if it was completely filled (or over filled). Due to hydrocarbons being less dense than formation water, it fills the top of the trap first (high pressure at the top of the trap), if you have high pressures continuing through the reservoir, it can indicate that there is a larger column.
Thats how I understand it anyway, definitely not an engineer.
